International Equestrian Federation Awards, Painted Hall - April 2005
On 9th April 2005, the Royal Naval College in Greenwich hosted the Equestrian Federation Awards Dinner, attended by HRH The Duke of Edinburgh. Sound By Design technically coordinated the evening in conjunction with The Equestrian Television Company, providing full sound and visual support for the event which was held in the prestigious Painted Hall.
The Painted Hall, probably one of the finest dining halls in the Western world, is decorated with stunning paintings by James Thornhill and was originally designed to be a hospital dinning room. It soon became too small to accomodate it's occupants and the Painted Hall stood empty until the body of Admiral Lord Nelson was brought here to lie in state, after he had been killed at the moment of his victory over Napoleon's fleet at Cape Trafalgar. Soon afterwards the Hall became a naval museum. By 1939 the Painted Hall was once again in use as a dining room and it remained in daily use until the Royal Navy's departure in 1998, and is now one of the most spectacular function venues in the country.
The venue is known for it's lively acoustics and Sound By Design utilised it's Meyer M1D line array on a ground support system for speech & video tracks in the dining area. The system maintained full clarity of the spoken word without the need for multiple delay speakers. A pair of Orion 84" plasma display units provided video support at the front of the venue with additional displays, part way down in the window reveals. Stuart Cook from Equestrian TV coordinated video replay with the Sound By Design team headed up by in-house engineer John Gale.
