Institute of Directors Convention, Royal Albert Hall - April 2001
One of the most important events in the IOD's calendar is the annual convention at the Royal Albert Hall. The event is well subscribed and attracts many high profile keynote speakers ranging from Cabinet Ministers to CEOs of some of the leading worldwide corporates.
With the majority of the day given over to speaking, speech intelligibility in the venue is paramount. For the past six years, Sound By Design have designed and supplied the sound system, communications links & interfaces for satellite feeds, web casting and transcription.
The system used comprised a centre Meyer Sound MSL-2A/ UPA-1C speaker cluster with powered in-fills. Sub-bass units located under the raised floor provided low-end support for VT playback. The system was pre-aligned using Meyer's SIM II system
MD Andy Callin commented, "Clear and accurate speech reproduction in the Royal Albert Hall is one of the most challenging jobs, there's a very fine balance between too little and too much in this venue. Sound reflects easily off the box fronts and controlling the multiple reflections is essential to prevent some delegates hearing the convention 'twice' - if you get my drift!"
