Russian Economic Forum, Old Billingsgate - April 2006
For the past three years, Sound By Design has provided a wide variety of sound systems for the annual Russian Economic Forum event. Over a 4-day period the company, working alongside Event Concept, designed and supplied systems for a number of contrasting events. For the Saturday night party the east side of the venue was transformed into two distinct areas; an English country garden complete with bandstand and quintet, and a promenade area with jumping water jets and everything one associates with a typical English garden party.
In the remainder of the venue, a Russian nightclub scene was re-created for performances by Liberty X and Rick Parfitt Jnr alongside various Russian bands and DJs.
Sound By Design’s system designer, Dave Shepherd, used a Digico D1 to control the 16 different zones, covered by an extensive rig of Meyer M & Ultra Series enclosures. A further Digico D1 dealt with the monitoring end of things with a Heritage 2000 provided for guest engineers.
The Russian Rhapsody, two days later was a total contrast. The evening opened with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Julian Gallant performing to a seated audience. Guests then made their way through to a dining area, before returning to what was the orchestral stage that had been transformed for a Big Band performance.
