Wisley Music Festival - June 2005

This four day music festival, set in the idyllic surroundings of the Royal Horticultural Society Gardens at Wisley has something for every music lover.

The line-up of acts was eclectic with the first night introducing "Aled Jones", "The Opera Babes", "Victoria Goldsmith" and the "Royal Philharmonic Orchestra" to the festival. "Georgie Fame & The Blue Flames" and the "National Youth Jazz Orchestra" made up the second night, playing a wide selection of jazz and rhythm & blues. The third night saw an evening dedicated to "Frank, Sammy & Dean: The Rat Pack - Live from Las Vegas". This was the West End production with a 15-piece swing band and a full supporting cast. The final evening comprised the "Sounds Of The Supremes", led by original band member Kaaren Ragland and "The Drifters", the longest running band in pop history.

With the English weather up to it's usual antics the week before this festival, we arrived on site armed with waterproofs, tarps and the like. However to all our surprise we couldn't have asked for better conditions, until (typically) it started raining just in time for the load out!

With expected crowds of around 3,500 per night and a coverage distance of 120 metres, we decided to utilise our M2D Line array, flown in a hang of 8 boxes on towers either side of the stage. Using MAPP prediction we were able to achieve a smooth coverage down the field. Sub Coverage was provided with a spaced array of Meyer 650s under the stage. With this technique phase addition helps to provide a more even coverage than conventional Left/Right Subs.

At FOH a Midas H2000 was utilised with outboard from BSS and TC Electronics. System management was achieved with a BSS Omnidrive and a Meyer LD-3 Driver, tailoring the frequency response of the line array. Beta software of MacFOH running on a G4 Powerbook was used to provide a real time FFT readout of the system response.

At the stage end a Crest X-Monitor was deployed to provide up to 16 mixes of stage monitoring. EM Acoustics M-12s wedges were used on stage with Meyer CQ-1s providing sidefill.
