Sound By Design specialise in concert sound reinforcement, both in the classical field and general entertainment, and are one of the industry leaders in supplying speech reinforcement and cabaret music systems to London's function and entertainment venues. Our prime directive is to provide discreet, natural reinforcement with systems that are carefully designed and aligned to perfectly suit each particular venue.

We understand the importance of corporate profile and image. We pride ourselves on delivering high quality sound and a well-presented service. Attention to every detail is covered in the early stages of event design, guaranteeing consistent standards of service.

We are a market leader within the field of classical music and we believe that maintaining a natural sound and balance with absolute definition and musical interpretation is essential. All our lead engineers are musicians in their own right and some have extensive score reading abilities.

CASE STUDIES

Queens House  

Greenwich Council, National Maritime Museum - February 2010

In February, Sound By Design supplied sound services for Greenwich Council in the Queens House, within the National Maritime Museum.

The evening reception was in honour of receiving Royal Borough status. Her Majesty the Queen bestowed the new status on Greenwich, which will take effect in the Diamond Jubilee year of 2012.

Axis & Globe, Natural History Museum  

Axis & Globe, Natural History Museum – January 2010

The Natural History Museum in London was selected as the preferred venue by Audi Spain to host their gala dinner for 400 guests. Sound By Design was contracted through Axis & Globe to supply full production for this prestigious event.

ISES: In Association With Visit London  

ISES: In Association With Visit London, Somerset House - January 2010

Sound By Design were proud to have sponsored the January ISES UK event at Somerset House. 

The afternoon/ evening event commenced with an informative talk and panel session from key spokespeople, including Visit London, England 2018 and Events for London. Topics for discussion included the forthcoming London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, Rugby World Cup 2015 and the England 2018 FIFA World Cup Bid to name but a few.

A Cathedral Christmas!  

A Cathedral Christmas! - December 2009

With its expertise of working in acoustically challenging venues, Sound by Design was contracted for concerts in three different Cathedrals during December 2009. Systems were installed in Wells Cathedral for Somerset County Music, with Lichfield and Rochester Cathedrals being supplied for Classic FM's charity Christmas Concerts.

NYMO Festival 2009  

NYMO Festival, Birmingham Town Hall – July 2009

As part of Music For Youth’s national festival, and also to celebrate Youth Music’s 10th birthday, the NYMOs put on a first ever concert at Birmingham’s Town Hall. Following a long-standing relationship with Music For Youth, working on the School’s Proms and Primary Proms, Sound By Design were asked to supply the reinforcement system.

Spring Dance 2009  

Spring Dance at the London Coliseum – April 2009

Sound By Design were recently commissioned by Raymond Gubbay Ltd to supply the sound reinforcement system for their new “Spring Dance” season in the London Coliseum, one of London’s largest and best equipped theatres.

The system was in situ for three weeks and covered shows ranging from Russell Maliphant Contemporary Dance Company, Birmingham Royal Ballet with “Pomp & Circumstances” and “Sylvia”, and “Anton & Erin – Cheek to Cheek”.

Lord of the Rings  

Lord of the Rings, Royal Albert Hall - Apr. 2009

Two evenings in April saw the Royal Albert Hall play host to a screening of the film of Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, accompanied by a live performance of Howard Shore’s original score. Conducted by Ludwig Wicki, it not only brought the film’s soundtrack spectacularly to life, but also brought together its original performers, the London Philharmonic, London Voices and the London Oratory School Schola boys chorus.

Forever European Rally 2009  

Forever European Rally, Malaga - February 2009

February 2009 saw Sound By Design back at the Forever European Rally, this year in Malaga, following 2008’s success in Budapest. It was clear from the outset when planning started for this event in July 2008, that this was going to be a technical challenge for an event that has grown in complexity over the past few years and was going to make the 2006 Nice event, where a helicopter was landed at the back of the stage, a positive walk in the park by comparison.

The Marketing Society 2008  

The Marketing Society, Royal Opera House - November 2008

Sound by Design was asked to provide the sound reinforcement for the Marketing Society’s 2008 Annual Conference held in the Paul Hamlyn Hall at the Royal Opera House.

Being a glass house, this prestigious venue provided a challenging reverberant acoustic that system designer Dave Shepherd had to master.
