Click to enlarge   For the 11th year running Sound By Design are delighted to be servicing the PA requirements for the world renowned BBC Proms music festival. Having built up a significant reputation in both the Classical music market and the Royal Albert Hall, this season further bolsters their impressive track record.

The Proms have now been running for 117 years remaining true to it’s original aim of bringing the widest range of music, performed to the highest standards, to large audiences.  The brainchild of the impresario Robert Newman, the first concert was held on 10 August 1895 in the Queens Hall, conducted by Sir Henry Wood, who’s bust remains on stage at the Albert Hall to this day.

This years season comprises of over 70 main Proms in the Albert Hall with subsidiary events in the Royal College of Music and Cadogan Hall. Some of the highlights for Sound By Design include:

Building upon experience of digital infrastructure for the festival over the last two seasons, this year Sound By Design has installed a completely digital infrastructure with full redundant backups (and no analogue splits!). MADI circuits have been established between front-of-house and the BBC Radio 3 broadcast truck to allow the sharing of any of the up to 112 stage microphones over fibre-optic cable. A DiGiCo SD9 has been installed permanently for day-to-day operational requirements which can be supplemented by a DiGiCo D1-112EX for the larger Prom requirements.

Sound By Design front-of-house engineers are all score readers in their own right and liaise closely with the BBC Balance Engineers and Producers to produce a subtle yet high-quality standard of sound reinforcement. In addition to the Royal Albert Hall, Sound By Design are providing engineering support in Cadogan Hall for the BBC Chamber Proms.

We all look forward to another successful summer of collaboration with the BBC and the venue affectionately known as “The Nations Village Hall”.
