FA Service Awards, Natural History Museum - November 2007

For over 6 years, Sound By Design has provided the sound services for the annual Financial Advisor Service Awards held at the Natural History Museum. The event, which this year packed the museum with over 650 guests, saw more than 40 awards handed out to the best and most improved companies in the financial industry, overseen by host for the evening, Clive Anderson.

Being the event that Sound By Design first introduced Meyer Sound’s M1D curvilinear array to the museum in 2002, it was fitting that this year saw the introduction of a refined system design for the venue for both improved intelligibility and aesthetics. Utilising the newly acquired Meyer 700-HP subwoofers as a base, a more compacted ground-rigged array was used to achieve a result that previously needed wind-up stands to allow the arrays to be flown. The array stacks were complimented with sets of Meyer UPA-1Ps as delays down the length of the hall and UPM-1Ps used as front-fill. “The new system allowed us to achieve the height required for the line array to work effectively, but from a vastly reduced footprint with, consequently, a neater appearance”, said Managing Director, Andy Callin.

A separate system in the North Hall of UPA-1Ps and USW-1P subwoofers provided reinforcement for a jazz ensemble comprised of a DJ with percussion and flute and a third system in Waterhouse Way was installed to provide announcements to the entering audience.

Returning to the helm for this event for the first time in 4 years, Sound By Design’s Systems Engineer, Dave Shepherd commented “The improved system now being used in the NHM allowed me to achieve unsurpassed levels from the lapels and lecterns whilst maintaining a highly intelligible sound right to the back of the hall. Being that the awards follow dinner (and therefore wine), the new setup meant that I could keep both the mics and the music stings at a level that had the audience focused for the duration of the hour-long ceremony”.
