Sound by Design was asked to provide the sound reinforcement for the Marketing Society’s 2008 Annual Conference held in the Paul Hamlyn Hall at the Royal Opera House.
Being a glass house, this prestigious venue provided a challenging reverberant acoustic that system designer Dave Shepherd had to master. An important aspect of many Sound By Design corporate events is to provide a discrete system that provides an even coverage over the entire audience, with maximum intelligibility. Therefore Dave elected to use six Meyer Sound UPA-1Ps and UPJ-1Ps around the perimeter of the venue with four M1D cabinets as front-fill. Using Meyer’s baby curvilinear array speakers in this position allowed the volume coming off the stage to be greater than that capable with traditional compact front-fill speakers due to the very narrow vertical dispersion an individual M1D box delivers, offering greater rejection on stage. This method allowed greater intelligibility by shifting the audio image to the stage from the edges of the room.
At the front end of the system a Crest Audio X4 mixing desk, BSS Omnidrive Compact Plus loudspeaker management system and Klark Teknik DN405 parametric equalisers were used to control everything with DPA headworn microphones on Shure UHF-R radio packs utilized on stage.
The event ran smoothly for the entire day including Sound By Design staff completing the get out within the 45 minute allotted pack-down time.
A delighted client looked forward to using Sound By Design for future events.
