Royal Albert Hall - Auditorium Sound Installation
Sound By Design has enjoyed a long-standing relationship with the Royal Albert Hall. In 1993, we signed an agreement to provide the venue with in-house sound services for many of its regular clients. The system was built around a Meyer centre cluster with separate fills for the Circle, Arena and Choir Stalls. The system has evolved over the years with the addition of powered enclosures and digital processing. We have compiled extensive acoustic data over the years using Meyer's proprietary MAPP techniques and SIM analysis.
The Albert Hall is undergoing an extensive refurbishment programme that has included major changes to the venue's internal fabric. As part of the redevelopment programme, the sound requirements were extensively reviewed. The Hall decided that Sound By Design's system best suited their needs and the system has now been reinstalled with permanent motors, cable catenaries and control lines. The amplifiers reside in the roof space in a temperature-controlled environment and the speaker cluster is mounted on a custom designed rigging plate.

Montreux Jazz Festival 2001
In July of this year four members of staff (Andy, Catherine, Lorraine and Chappie) were invited by Meyer Sound to be guests at the 35th Annual Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland. Meyer has sponsored the event for the last 15 years and invites many of their customers from all over the world to attend.
The festival encompasses many styles of music and Meyer, one of it's sponsors, uses the event to showcase many new products. Different venues use different systems depending on their size and the style of music played within. This year, Meyer demonstrated their stunning new line-array system, M3D, in two of the larger venues.
The acts in the main venues during Sound By Design's week in Montreux included B.B. King, Van Morrison, Alanis Morissette, Goldfrapp, Herbie Hancock, Marcus Miller and David Gray to name but a few, along with many other jazz, rock and pop acts on the smaller outside stages that were littered around the main auditoriums and throughout Montreux.

Induction Loop Systems
The law now dictates that all new sound installations must include hearing assisted systems, either infrared or induction loops. Sound By Design has supplied and installed literally hundreds of loop systems ranging from simple single loop applications through to multiple loops in close proximity, whilst maintaining the necessary degree of isolation between adjacent rooms.
We have a large selection of loop equipment available from hire stock and can provide advice on temporary installations.

Sound By Design appoints new staff
As a growing company we are always looking for young and enthusiastic individuals to join our team.
Our latest recruits include Emma Fairbairn and Darren Rose. Emma was brought on board in November 2000 to assist with the ever-increasing workload within the events department. She is now an established member of the team, taking sole responsibility for all sub-contract and in-house crewing.
Darren is our newest member. He currently works part time in the warehouse helping with prepping and repairing of equipment.
