Sound By Design service many live commercial recordings particularly at the Royal Albert Hall. Intimate knowledge of both the infrastructure and acoustics of this and other venues allow us to set-up portable location systems in a matter of hours. We have invested heavily in MADI as our preferred method of audio transmission, allowing us to take up to 56 channels in one coaxial or fibre-optic cable. RME Infrastructure allows us to split and route MADI around venues offering a great deal of flexibility and, this year, the addition of a Digidesign Sync I/O allows our recorders to lock to camera SMPTE timecode and black-and-burst on a video shoot.
We have the facility to fly recording slings specifically measured to the dimensions of the RAH for classical work, usually equipped with Schoeps or DPA microphones in a Decca Tree configuration. With the ability to record up to 112 tracks simultaneously, our preferred software platforms are AVID Pro Tools, Steinberg Nuendo or Sadie but new kid on the block Reaper is also proving very reliable. Each concert is captured on a main and backup multitrack machine powered on uninterruptible power supplies giving full failure redundancy. Recent clients include:
New for 2011 in conjunction with our sister company Delta Sound is the availability of an outside broadcast vehicle which can be furnished with digital mixers, multitrack recorders, effects racks and active loudspeakers. With a Pro Tools HD studio back at base we are now equipped to carry out full post production for concert clients including sync to picture for DVD shoots.
